Since 1995, Island Weigh has been providing Dockside Monitoring services to PEI, NB, NS, Quebec and some NFLD fishers landing fish here on PEI. Island Weigh is the most experienced DFO Certified Dockside Monitoring service provider in Prince Edward Island.
Our goal is to provide excellent Dockside Monitoring services to all Gulf fishers landing fish across Prince Edward Island.
Feel free to contact our office with questions, or if you need help. Our office is open yearly from mid-April to the end of November or later if fisheries require it. Our office hours are
- Monday to Friday 9 am to 4 pm
- Open 24 Hours for Hail-ins/outs, once the first fishery opens for the year
Certified Dockside Observers
We provide Certified Dockside Observers who are trained to observe, record and report fish landings for commercial fishers as required by Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO). We now employ 25 to 30 Dockside Observers each year who work in communities all over Prince Edward Island.
Dockside Monitoring Program
The Dockside Monitoring program started in the early 1990’s.
In Atlantic Canada, independent monitoring programs have been used as an essential tool in the management of the commercial fisheries for over 25 years. These programs have been critical in determining the annual stock assessments for quota management and providing important scientific research to better understand all aspects of the industry.
The information collected is also used by biologists to help gauge the health of fish stocks which are so important to the economy of Prince Edward Island.
